A viral video has been doing rounds on social media. This video shows a lady (recording) arguing with Nairobi County Council officer. The officer who had forced himself into the lady’s car was seen begging the lady to let him go. Having locked all the doors, the lady took him on a ride.
This has created a debate online as to whether the lady was right in doing what she did. Some section believe that the kanjo was wrong by forcing himself into her car. Others believe that even though he was wrong, the lady overreacted and went overboard.
County Secretary, Patrick Analo, addressed the media in his office on Thursday. He acknowledged that the county officer was in the wrong to have forced himself into her car without permission. However, the car owner should also be held accountable.
According to Analo, the lady in question should have driven the guy to the nearest police station or county offices to report the incident.
“While it is wrong for the officer to have entered the vehicle without permission, it is equally wrong to detain someone just because they have illegally entered your car. They should have rushed with the officer to the nearest police station.”
Therefore Analo assured that both the officer and the lady will separately face reactions for their actions. The officer for illegally accessing the complainant’s car and the complainant for not reporting the matter to the police.
“There is a report that I’m expecting from that officer and his supervisors. Which will inform the disciplinary action to be taken. He needs to explain to us under what circumstances he entered the car.”
Analo condemned the lady’s actions saying they equate as abduction. The lady was heard saying he wanted to take the man to ngong making it an abduction case. “By saying that she is driving that man to Ngong, that also constitutes abduction.”
It remains unclear the disciplinary actions that will be taken against the two. This is because both have been seen to be on the wrong side.
