Naftali Kinuthia, a man who travelled from Nairobi to kill Moi University’s Ivy Wangeci four years ago has been handed 40 years in prison.
An Eldoret High Court found Kinuthia guilty of the murder and on Friday, handed Kinuthia fourty years behind bars. This comes after Kinuthia confessed to killing Ivy in March this year.
According to Kinuthia’s confession, he said he did it with an axe and it was due to anger and so the High court was told.

Reports indicate that the relationship of Kinuthia and Ivy started in Primary all through to high school. Ivy joined Alliance Girls while Kinuthia joined Nyandarua Boys.
Kinuthia claims that he had spent a lot of money on Wangeci yet she rejected him after all those years for being short. He continues that Wangeci hugged another man in front of him thus provoking him.
Kinuthia informed the court that he had spent more than Ksh. 100,000 on her. Events building up to the murder as told by Kinuthia say that he even sent Ksh. 7,000 for her birthday which she didn’t invite him.

On the fateful day, Kinuthia was provoked when Ivy told him she no longer loved him. He says he was hurt after the deceased told him he was not impressed by his short statue.
According to him, he did not intend to kill her as his axe was for self defence. However, the act of hugging another man in front of him made him attack Ivy.
“I could not stand that scenario. I lost control of myself and attacked her with my axe since I was out of my mind. I was completely out of myself.” Kinuthia told the court during his confession.
However, the court delivered a sentence that will see Naftali Kinuthia in for fourty years.
