Kenyans have expressed their reactions after Non-Salaried kenyans and the non employed kenyans were included in the new Affordable Housing Bill that was passed in parliament yesterday.
According to reports, the non salaried persons will part with 1.5 percent of their gross income from any business they are doing due to lack of an employment opportunity for deductions to be made from.
To tap all businesses that are holding the non employed kenyans, the government has urged all business persons to register their businesses ti ensure that they benefit from tax reliefs.

This comes after parliament passed the revised the affordable housing bill that was presented in parliament for discussion. The bill will now include the non formal sector where the non employed who have been categorised as the non salaried persons will also be part of the deductions.
However, a section of kenyans have praised the move while others have mocked the non employed kenyans who thought that they will be exempted from the levy deductions but the new bill be inclusive of all kenyans regardless of employment or not.
The Affordable Housing Levy was declared unconstitutional by the High Court last year. The judges ruled that Section 48 of the Finance Act, which introduces the housing levy on formal employed workers, violates the principle of taxation as it makes an unjustified distinction between people employed in the formal and informal sectors.

It is now expected that the Bill will be rushed to the Senate for the first reading with Kenya Kwanza targeting March salaries to be deducted the said affordable housing tax.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah was bullish after the passage of the Bill as he castigated opposition MPs for walking out of the House after they knew their proposals won’t sail through.
