Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali has been involved in an accident that saw his car destroyed after bursting into flames along the Embu-Meru Highway .
According to reports the politician was heading to Nairobi from Meru when his car was involved in an head-on collision with a Toyota Hilux near the Gatunduri bridge.
The Deputy Speaker’s car immediately went up in flames after the incident that saw it burn in the side of the road with other motorists watching in shock. The other vehicle had also veered off the road.

While confirming the incident Embu West Traffic base commander Solomon Wamae said a 6-year-old child sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tenri Hospital where she succumbed while receiving treatment.
“Two motor vehicles a Subaru and Toyota Hilux were involved in a head-on collision accident at Gatunduri area along Embu-Meru highway. The Subaru had four people on board, two children and an adult and his driver, both of whom suffered injuries while the Toyota Hilux had a single person who suffered minor injuries.”
The deputy speaker’s driver sustained a head injury and dislocated his left knee. He was also airlifted to Karen Hospital Nairobi. The Deputy Speaker was also airlifted together with another child to Karen Hospital in Nairobi both with serious injuries.
Residents who responded to the incident have labelled the place a black spot and urged motorists to observe caution whenever approaching the area.

“The cars collided head-on hence one bursting into flames that we have assisted in putting down the fire. This is a blackspot. I would urge the government to consider erecting pumps along the Gatunduri section to avoid witnessing such accidents.”
