Meru Governor, Kawira Mwangaza has been unanimously impeached from her capacity as the governor of Meru County. This comes after a sitting convened on Wednesday. This being the second attempt by the MCAs.
All 59 members who were present in the house voted in support of the motion to impeach her. Making it an unanimous decision by the house. However ten members were not present in the house during the decision.
This is a second attempt to kick her out after the first time in December last year failed. She was saved by an 11 member senate special committee. After investigation, the committee submitted a report against her impeachment. She resumed office after the ordeal.
The governor is accused of misuse of public funds, gross misconduct, contempt of the court and the county assembly. She had moved to court to block the members from discussing the impeachment motion. The court declined thus today’s decision.
Her fate again lies in the senate after overturning her first impeachment. The decision now lies with senators who have the option to either make decision as a house or pick an 11-member committee just like the first time.
Kawira has been in constant conflicts within her county. Recently, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki warned her about meetings she was holding that were causing chaos. We await the decision of the Senate on the matter.
The MCAs now hope that the senate will support their decision and impeach the governor. They claim that the governor has failed the people of Meru County.
