Activist Mercy Tarus was on Friday accused of contempt of court and was forced to appear in court in person to clear on the allegations.
According to reports, the key witness found herself in the wrong side of the law after being accused of contempt for failing to honour summons to appear in court in person and discussing the case outside the courtroom.
“As for Mercy Tarus, serious allegations bordering contempt of court were raised against her that need her to answer. Contempt proceedings should be taken seriously. Her attendance must therefore be physical like the other parties involved in the hearing.”

After she appeared in Court and during the court proceedings, the activist Mercy Tarus was shown footage of her discussing critical matters touching on a case during an appearance on the Iko Nini Podcast on July 24, 2024.
Despite Tarus claiming that the comments she made on various interviews in different media were not discussing the merits or demerits of the case as they were mere expressions of anger.
Lawyers of Senator Mandago had to replay videos in the courtroom to prove to the court that indeed she had uttered some words which would on the face of it mean that the accused was guilty and would be jailed.

However, Magistrate Ndege was linient on her and while delivering his ruling, pardoned Tarus but warned of dire consequences should such a thing involving the case happen outside the court again moving forward. The case was rescheduled to continue again from December 2nd, 3rd and 5th this year
