The Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) has created and announced 1098 TSC internship vacancies for unemployed but registered teachers to apply.
The vacancies are available for the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) level of teaching. According to the teacher employer, the internship programme will be a one year contract period.
“The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching and exposure to practical teaching experience.”

The commission went ahead and listed the areas where most of the TSC internship vacancies are available. Only interested candidates who are willing to teach in those areas should apply for these positions.
Available vacancies per county and school is in the Teachers Service Commission’s website
“The vacancies are spread across Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Tana-River, Marsabit, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Turkana, Murang’a, Nyeri, Samburu, Isiolo, and Kajiado counties.”
The commission however notes that the Recruitment Guidelines for the recruitment of Teacher Interns 2023/2024 Financial Year (Post Primary Institutions) shall apply for the one year contractual agreement.
The successful applicants, then interns will be guaranteed a monthly stipend of Ksh. 20,000 prior the necessary tax deductions and obligations.

According to TSC, Here are the JSS basic requirements for Interns;
- One must be a Kenyan citizen.
- One must be a holder of at least a Diploma in Education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KSCE) or its equivalent.
- One must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
However the commision notes that teachers who have been previously employed under permanent and pensionable employment terms are not eligible to apply for the Junior Secondary Schools Intern positions.
Therefore newly graduated teachers who have successfully registered with the commision should apply for these positions.
HOW TO APPLY:
Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit their applications online through the Commission’s website, under “Careers” or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke not later than 15th December, 2023.
Required Documents include; copies of the Teacher Registration Certificate from the TSC online portal, the National Identity Card or passport, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card, the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN), and two coloured passport-size photos.
