United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has revealed why the UDA Grassroot Elections were postponed to next year.
Earlier reports had indicated that the elections that was supposed to happen on December 9th failed due to El-Nino rains. New details have emerged that there was more to it even though the El-Nino rains was one of the reasons.
According to Malala, there is a strong feeling within the party to dissolve all sister parties in Kenya Kwanza to join UDA. This according to Malala will form a strong national political party to ensure political tranquility.

The merger was therefore supposed to happen before UDA held the grassroot elections. Delay in negotiations led to the postponement of the exercise to next year. This is to allow consultations and signing of agreements before the dissolve.
UDA was and still is in a process of persuading Kenya Kwanza’s sister parties to fold up and form a singular strong party instead of a coalition.
“UDA grassroots elections were scheduled for December 9 but after deliberations with the national steering committee headed by the party leader, President William Ruto postponed it to allow the negotiations with affiliate parties.”
In addition to the negotiations within parties, Malala also said that the postponement was to allow more time for member registration as well as candidates at all levels.
Malala also used the opportunity to warn elected UDA and Kenya Kwanza members against opposing the government and specifically, President William Ruto. This he said will attract disciplinary actions.
“I want to state here categorically that UDA shall institute internal mechanisms to deal with such members.” adding that members should use available avenues to address their concerns.
The Secretary General was speaking during the launch of the first UDA regional office at Section 58 Estate. He mantained that President William Ruto is headed in the right direction of economic recovery.
“President Ruto was elected on the promise of economic transformation and he has been putting in place programs to salvage this country from the dungeons of economic depression.”
