Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir did on Monday inform the country of load Shedding, the solution that the Energy ministry will pertake to ensure that the problems of power blackouts are solved once and for all.
Speaking in a press conference, Chirchir said that the government was looking for long-term solution to the blackouts problem. A solution that will last. And the Ministry has opted for the load shedding system.
This comes after the country experienced the third blackout in a span of three months bringing operations to a stand still for hours. Something the Kenya Power explained as a technical glitch

According to Chirchir, the ministry will opt for this method such that instead of overloading a line and causing a countrywide power outage, some feeders will be removed to lessen the overload.
“Instead of pushing the lines to an overload, we will basically give the line the load that it can carry and therefore have some kind of scheduled load shedding.”
Load shedding prevents a complete system failure that will prevent nationwide blackouts. Even though the Blackout will occur, it will not be nationwide as it will be controlled. Therefore, using temporary reduction of electricity supply will prevent a complete system failure.
Same case as demand and supply in business, the Load shedding system will balance the available power with the demand, ensuring a more stable and reliable electricity supply for everyone from the grid.
The CS added that he will call a meeting with the relevant ministries and stakeholders to discuss how to effectively implement load shedding in the national power grid to avoid future nationwide blackouts.
