Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has sparked a debate after proposing service fees on all Huduma Centers. This he did during an address at the State Department during the takeover after a reshuffle.
Kuria said that these service fees will help in the day to day running of the centres. This is to avoid financially burdening the treasury during this tough economic times.
“You have been enjoying these services without paying, there is no more free lunch. You have to pay for it. We will introduce a fee for service for government service and private service to support our e-commerce because Huduma Centre will be the backbone for e-commerce”
The incoming Public Service Cabinet Secretary was previously holding the Trade docket before the Presidential reshuffle. These are among the changes he’s bringing on board “to improve the ministry”.
The Cabinet Secretary said they have not settled on the ammount yet as the proppsal will undergo public participation before being implemented.
“We have not settled on the amount yet, this is one of the many changes we want to introduce as a way of improving this ministry”
Kuria also said that he’s working on improving the number of services offered in Huduma Centers. This will increase efficiency and service delivery. This he said will be possible through partnering with even the private sector.
He also added that they are working to increase the number of these centers across the country from the current 52 to cement the changes he wants to make in the ministry.
Moses Kuria has also said that the proposal will undergo all the required stages including public participation and presented in parliament for review before being implemented by his ministry.
