The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced KRA Tax Waivers on penalties and interests accrued for all kenyans up to December 31st 2022.
This means that any kenyan who has interests in KRA due to failure to file returns will now be forgiven. This is on condition that the affected kenyans to file their returns before June next year.
The Kenya Revenue Authority was responding to a social media post that accused the tax man of preventing kenyans with tax arrears from leaving the country through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) terming it as fake and misleading
“Infact, tunasamehea watu wako na tax penalties and interest for the period up to 31st December 2022. Bora tu ufile returns zenye ulimiss na ulipe any outstanding principal tax kabla deadline ya 30th June 2024.”
KRA also identified 2.8 million taxpayers who had penalties and interest and qualified for the tax amnesty program. Therefore these people have till December 31st to file their interest free returns.
