The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the 2024 KRA Auction of close to 100 vehicles at the customs warehouse in Mombasa believed to have overstayed.
According to the Revenue Authority notice released on Friday, the process of auctioning of these vehicles will kick off on January 31st 2024 at the Kilindini harbour in Mombasa
Reports indicate that among the vehicles that are available for auction include diverse Toyota models including Noah, Probox, Harrier, Premio, Enquire and Land Cruisers. Also available include Mazda CX-5, BMW X4, Mazda Bongo, Suzuki Swift, Subaru Forester, Jeep Grand Cheromsae, Mercedes Benz, Mazda Axela and Audi-A3.

The Authority is also looking to offload used car models including Toyota Vitz, Nissan Caravan, Mazda Axela, Audi A3, Landrover Discovery, Premio and Toyota Tacoma among others.
How To Bid For The 2024 KRA Auction.
Interested bidders will be accorded a chance to view the vehicles during the final week of January 2024 during office hours and submit their documents on or before January 31, 2024
Applications will be publicly opened in the presence of all bidders who attend the auction. The highest bidder will be selected to walk away with the item of their choice

However, the auction carried out according to Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004 which requires the KRA Commissioner to give a thirty-day notice before auctioning the items. The Management Act States that:
Any goods that have been deposited in a Customs warehouse are not lawfully removed within thirty days after deposit, then the Commissioner shall give notice by publication in the Gazette that unless such goods are removed within thirty days from the date of notice they shall be deemed to have been abandoned to Customs for sale by public auction and may be sold in such manner as the Commissioner may deem fit.
