The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has warned the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates who are waiting for their examination results against a new con game that is emerging.
In a statement on Monday, the examination council confirmed that they have received reports of the new con game aimed at swindling KCSE 2023 candidates and their parents.
The new con game according to KNEC is tailored through SMS to lie to parents and candidates that with a certain ammount of money, their grades can be upgraded for the better in the upcoming 2023 KCSE Results release.

With Ksh. 9000, the conmen claim that they can alter the grades of any student to match the grade of their choice, something that the examination council has termed impossible.
“Hallo, send 9k ya registration nikufanyie mpango upgrading ya KCSE inaendelea saa hii. NB requirements random num ‘school code, index num ya strong student and weak students. Call tuongee,”
The examination council has dismissed this publication as fake and said that no individual has the power to alter or change the grades of any students. Adding that parents and candidates should not fall prey to the con and should not send their hard earned money expecting a grade that the student doesn’t deserve.
“Do not fall prey to fraudsters purporting to be able to adjust KCSE scores. Absolutely no one can influence the scores of any national examination.”
This comes after the Kenya National Examination Council flagged another publication that said that the KCSE exams were to be released between 16th December to 22nd December. The examiner said that the marking process is currently ongoing and they will only release the exams when they are ready.
