Over 1,500 Kitengela BodaBoda Riders boycotted services on Monday morning to protest against the arrest of their colleagues on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a lady motorist.
According to reports, the police did not consider their woes when making arrests and this forced them to down their tools on Monday to protest against the arrests.
All motorcycles were withdrawn from the road, causing a transport crisis in Kitengela town. The riders who refused to join their colleagues were forcibly pulled off the road. All the motorcycles were parked near the Kitengela Deputy County Commissioner’s office.

The Kitengela BodaBoda riders have now demanded the release of their colleagues saying that they are ready to help the police identify the culprits of the Thursday incident claiming their colleagues are innocent.
This comes after police in Kitengela on Friday arrested 20 boda boda riders and impounded 26 motorcycles after a major crackdown on individuals who were filmed attacking a motorist and extensively damaging her vehicle following a series of accidents in the town.
However, a crisis meeting held today by the Kitengela Assistant County Commissioner Chrispus Mazoya, Kitengela OCS David Ole Shani and Kitengela traffic commander Sarah Warukha has resolved to strict rules to control unruly behavior of riders in Kitengela.
All boda boda riders operating within Kitengela town and its environs will be required to register with relevant governing bodaboda association and their names submitted to the security committee.

The incident that has been condemned across social media had dozens of boda boda riders were seen attacking the motorist and her male passenger before damaging his vehicle in broad daylight due to an accident caused by the vehicle.
However, the police have warned the motorists from taking matters into their own hands and even violating the other kenyan’s rights when an accident happens. The operators were also recorded stealing personal belongings during the scuffle before the two were saved by police officers.
