Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has given an update on the situation in Tana River. This comes after Two Missing MPs and their team got lost in the flooded River Tana.
The missing MPs and their aides were enroute to a humanitarian mission through food distribution exercise in Tana Delta Sub-County in Tana River county on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
They were reported missing after the boat they were in failed to report back by 7PM. However, Interior CS has come out to say that the missing MPs are safe and are yet to be located.

“All the eighteen passengers and crew are so far safe but are stranded at a yet to be established location. A multi agency search & rescue mission spearheaded by the Kenya Coast Guard is underway overnight.”
The two legislators, along with their team including Kinakomba MCA Hamid Babusa, Garsen North MCA Semi Dumba and nominated counterpart Haoddo, departed from Garsen Town to distribute food aid to flood victims in remote areas of the sub-county.
According to reports, the reported team chose to use a shortcut to Garsen. This may have led to encountering with rough waters in an unfamiliar tributary.
According to a video doing rounds on social media, the MPs have confirmed they are alive but stranded. The missing MPs and their aides are now appealing for help in the video.
Kindiki has said that rescue mission is underway despite the harsh weather conditions in the region. However, the multi agency team led by the Kenya Coast Guard is doing everything possible to ensure every occupant in the boat is back safely.
Kindiki has also said that the government is doing everything possible to ensure every kenyan affected by floods is safe and evacuated.
