Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has cautioned members of parliament from sneaking women into parliament buildings without permission.
The Kikuyu Constituency legislature who doubles up as a majority leader has described the women as aliens who shouldn’t be allowed in restricted areas. The areas reserved for sitting members of parliament.
“On one or two occasions, you will find members inviting non-members into the member’s lounge. There are areas designated for visitors and others are strictly for sitting members.”

Kimani Ichung’wah did not however name the two culprits whom he noted and said that should the action be repeated, he will name and shame them publicly without fear of contradiction.
“I was shocked one of these Wednesday evenings when the House sits till 9:00 pm, to walk to the member’s bar, I will not name the two members who had invited visitors to the member’s bar but should the same happen, I will be relying the names to your office so that you also take action.”
The leader reminded other members that the members lounge was strictly for sitting members where they can share ideas and lobby each other on issues of the house. And it’s uncomfortable when a non-member is present during the random house talks.
“It is members who are inviting their visitors and while that place is designated for sitting members, it is because that is where members go and caucus and lobby each other and we may not be able to do that comfortably when you have strangers next to you.”
Ichung’wah then asked the speaker of the house to remind members of the rules governing such instances.
The rules state that:
- Non members shall not be allowed to remain in any part of the Parliamentary Buildings or gardens after 8.00 pm without permission.
- Visitors are required to have a pass bearing that day’s date issued to him or her and signed by the Clerk or a parliamentary officer or a permanent pass signed by the Speaker or the Clerk.
- Any Member or Parliamentary officer should not admit or keep more than two visitors as his or her guests after 6.00 p.m without permission.
