Key suspects in Athlete Kiplagat’s murder were arraigned before an Eldoret court in January 2nd and will now remain in police custody for 21 days to allow for completion of investigations.
Eldoret court Magistrate Cherono Kese allowed an application by police to hold the suspects; David Ekhai Lokere alias Timo and Peter Ushuru Khalumi, when they appeared before her on Tuesday.
Investigating Officer Inyasio Mwaniki asked the court to give them more time since post-mortem for the deceased is yet to be conducted to determine the cause of death.

According to Mwaniki the details of the vehicle in which the body of the athlete was found and that of the motorcycle used by the suspects are yet to be obtained from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
The court was also informed that the CCTV footage obtained from the scene of crime is set to be presented to the cybercrime for certification and production to be presented in court as evidence.
Officer Mwaniki added that crucial exhibits obtained from the suspects, that is the blood stained clothes and a dagger knife, are yet to be presented before the government chemist for analysis.

Therefore, due to the explanations given by the investigation officer, the court found it wise to detain the two suspects for another 21 days pending further investigations before the case is mentioned.
This comes after the two were arrested in connection with Athlete Kiplagat’s murder- Benjamin Kiplagat in Eldoret on Sunday at Kimumu area while heading home. The body of the athlete was found with multiple stab wounds inside his car.
A CCTV footage shows the two suspects chasing after Kiplagat before he wrecked his car in a ditch. They then proceeded to commit the heinous crime.
