Kenyans have been put on high alert over the rising cases of donkey meat supply across the country during this christmas period.
This comes after police reported several arrests of persons trading in donkey meat. This includes butchery owners who are selling meat that has not been approved by health officials.
The latest case has been reported in Runyenjes, Embu County after the Kenya Police arrested three suspects that were arrested today over illicit slaughter of donkeys.

Acting on a tip, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a pre-dawn raid at a homestead in Kajekeru village, resulting in the arrest of Stanley Thuranira, George Maringa, and Anastasia Wanyaga on Friday
The three were armed with crude weapons which they tried to use in an attempt to evade arrests but the police subdued them leading to the arrests.
“Upon encounter, the men armed with crude weapons attempted an attack on the Officers prompting them to fire warning shots in the air.”
According to reports, police officers found donkey carcases that had been slaughtered and a car ready to transport the nean to various locations to sell to unsuspecting Kenyans.

“At the scene, 20 freshly-slaughtered donkey carcasses and one motor vehicle, Noah Registration No. KDD 782T. We also recovered 3 pangas, 12 knives, one bow and 6 arrows.”
Kenyans have been therefore advised to ensure they know the kind of meat they are consuming with the rising demand of meat during this festive season. Members of the public have also been urged to report any suspicious slaughtering activities to the nearest police station.
