Kenyans Beware: The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced numerous cases of vandalism that has been witnessed in various places within the country in the ongoing Crackdown.
In a statement released today, the power company has sounded a stern warning to kenyans vandalizing transformers, power towers, power conductors (cables), poles, and meters with the company saying that illegal connections of power lines was also on the rise.
The company further warned that those kenyans who were found vandalizing KPLC items will be faced with a 5 Million shillings fine. This will include illegal possessions of power items, illegal connectivity of power and any connection that doesn’t involve KPLC.

“Vandalism of transformers, poles and conductors also poses a risk to human and animal lives as vandals leave power infrastructure exposed, leading to a possibility of electrocution. Anyone found involved in the mentioned criminal activities is liable to a fine of not less than Ksh5 million or to a term imprisonment of ten years or both.”
KPLC explained that the power interruptions experienced across the country with the current repairs being done daily are as a result of the vandalism and the company will do everything possible to stop this growing behaviour.
Kenyans were also urged to report vandalism cases to the company for further actions. You can dial *977# to report any case you witness around you.
“Report any cases of transformer vandalism or vandalism of any power infrastructure by calling Kenya Power on 97771. You can also report to any Kenya Power office near you, the area Chief or any police post near you.”
