In a public notice released today, the Kenya Railways has adjusted its prices upwards. According to the notice, this is due to fuel increase in the country. According to the authority, the increment will come into full effect on January 1st 2024.
“The increase has been informed by changes in the energy and Petroleum sector where prices have significantly increased thus affecting the cost of our operations,” the notice stated.
In addition, the customers making advance ticket payments for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service will notice the adjusted fares. This is to notify them to take to account the advance ticket purchasing window of 60 days.
The affected train services are as follows: Madaraka Express Passenger Service, the Madaraka Express Commuter Service followed by Nairobi Commuter Rail Service then the Kisumu Safari Train and the Nanyuki Safari Train.
According to the updated schedule, the fare increment is significant. For instance from Nairobi to Mombasa was/is 3000 bob. The new schedule is at 4,500 shillings.
