The theatre has been home to various top performance artists who use the space for art. This seems to be a pause for them to pave way for renovations and uplift for better experience during performances.
The ministry of sports awarded a 167 M tender to a bidder who won the tender to renovate the facility in an aim to make it a state of the art. This will see the theatre uplifted to become one of the best spaces for film and drama probably in EA. This is why KNT is closed.
Witnessing the handover was the Sports CS Ababu Namwamba who has now closed two facilities for renovations. The first one being Iten Sports Grounds on November 14th.
Additionally, the CS also appointed 12 new board members who will oversee the theatre operations. These members will be in charge of the facility in the next two years. This is an effort to better the standards and nurture more talents that depend on the facility.
However, the dependants of the theatre have said that the move was “too abrupt” for them. Claiming that they weren’t prepared for such a move. However, the ministry has promised that the renovations will be as quick as possible.
The completion of the uplift is expected to be on April next year, 2024. Therefore they have been urged to bear with the situation and use alternative facilities as they wait for the completion of the uplift.
