The Indian government has expressed strong interest in acquiring cheetahs during President William Ruto’s visit in the country that saw him get a loan from the country in a bid to boost Kenya India Relations.
Although details remain confidential, the Indian Ministry of Environment has already submitted proposals in the agreed trade. Howe, details like the number of cheetahs they will acquire, the number kenya is willing to give and the timeline for all that remains under wraps.
This was reported by the Indian Express, an indian news outlet that confirmed the reports of the President William Ruto’s state visit in India.

They also quoted an official from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs who confirmed that India’s Ministry of Environment had formally submitted an application to acquire the cheetahs from the Kenyan government.
This comes after India reported that they are facing a shortage of cheetahs in the country which they are claiming will go extinct with the current trend. The current statistic being 15 cheetahs in the Kuno National Park, which is located in the Northern City of Pradesh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also commended President William Ruto on his decision to join the Big Cat Alliance. This is a group whose primary purpose is to conserve the world’s seven principal big cats. They include the tiger, lion, snow leopard, leopard, jaguar, puma, and cheetah.
On Tuesday, India agreed to a Ksh. 38.3 Billion loan to Kenya that the government said will go towards improving the Agricultural sector in the country.
This led to the signing of 5 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to boost Kenya India relations. The agreements encompass various economic sectors, including Trade, Agriculture, Security, and Foreign Relations
