A student who had just sat and finished the just concluded Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams has drowned in Machakos dam. The candidate drowns in Machakos hours after writing his last paper.
Finishing his exams from St Martin Wendano Secondary School in Matungulu, the students decided to go out for a photo session near the dam with his friends.
The deceased was in the company of four other boys when the incident occurred at the Matungulu sub-county. The area police commander Peter Omondi confirmed the incident saying it happened within Matuu area in the sub-county.
Matuu assistant chief Raphael Musyoki said that the boys had just finished their KCSE exams when they decided to take pictures.

However, upon noticing that their friend had slipped into the dam, the other four escaped from the scene leaving the boy to drown.
“The five were taking pictures after completing their exams today. They were headed home from school and decided to take pictures unknown to them disaster would strike.”
“They are students at Matuu Wendano Secondary School and had just finished the KCSE exams. Then stopped by the dam to take pictures and enjoy themselves. Unluckily one of the boys slipped and fell into the water and drowned.”
The body is yet to be retrieved with the search operations still underway.
“I was notified about the incident and informed police. We are trying to drain the dam as we search for the body.”
Search was called off on Friday at 6PM due to darkness and the operations are set to resume on Saturday.
This comes at a time when floods are causing havoc in various parts of the country. With people living in lowland areas encouraged to move to safer grounds for their safety. The meteorological department says that the El Nino is here and people should beware of floods.
