Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has insisted that he is not going anywhere despite President William Ruto’s silence over the Impeachment saga that has triggered the political circles.
In what seemed like reporting his tribulations to his people in Mt Kenya, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made several rallies to gather support from the people after several MPs even those from Mt Kenya turned against him.
So far, over 280 Members of Parliament have signed in support of the Impeachment motion with Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa claiming that he will sponsor the motion that is expected to be tabled next week on Tuesday in parliament.
However, President William Ruto’s silence continues to grow louder each passing day, with his close allies pushing for Rigathi Gachagua ouster, something that confirms that President Ruto has a hand and nod in Gachagua’s impeachment process.
The Deputy President has insisted that he is going nowhere and he was actively involved in making this government and asked President Ruto to allow him to finish this term before deciding his fate in 2027.
“Our party of UDA has a President and Deputy President, and we were voted in as one ticket. If you (President Ruto) do not want Gachagua, that will finish UDA,” then proceeded to rally the crowd with the chant, “Harambee – Usiguse Mlima.”
However, reports indicate that there is fear among Mount Kenya leaders leading the impeachment over the rallies held by Riggy G claiming that voters in the region might not forgive them for taking down one of their own if the Impeachment goes through.
Though silent and out of the country, President Ruto has received appeals from influential business and religious leaders urging him to stop the Impeachment plans and ask his allies to back down over the delicacy of the matter.
