During the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results release, the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu noted that there was a drop in performance in specific subjects in 2023 KCSE Examination
According to the Cabinet Secretary, subjects that were done in the afternoon in the previous years and performed fairly well recorded a significant drop in performance in last year’s KCSE examinations in the country.
Subjects like history and religious subjects like Christian Religious Education and Islamic religion recorded a huge decline in performance, something that the CS had to talk about.

Ezekiel Machogu noted that the decline has confirmed that early exposure was an issue in the previous national examinations and the current measures reduced early exposure in a great deal.
According to the measures, the Ministry of Education through Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) advised examination managers to collect exams both in the morning and afternoon for the day separately.
Previously, all the day examinations were collected in the morning increasing the risk of high exposure thus making the afternoon subjects to perform better due to the early exposure explained by the Ministry.
The CS commended the move because it lowered the risk of Examination malpractice through the early exposure. Therefore, the drop in performance of specific subjects that were previously done in the afternoon exposes the previous challenge.
