The government is set to introduce cheap but healthy alcoholic drinks to kenyans in a bid to counter the consumption of illicit brew in the country.
According to the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the government is yetbto change its tactic to introduce low-priced but healthy and affordable alcoholic drinks as a way of eradicating illicit brew from the market.
Revealing the new model, the DP said that talks are ongoing with one of the partnering alcoholic beverages manufacturer to come up with a solution by producing cheaper but healthy alcoholic drinks.

“We have asked the manufacturer to start a cheap, healthy and affordable alcoholic drink. We will address the taxation issue. The main problem is on the portable spirits, whose alcohol level is extremely high and toxic- which have ruined families. As a government we have a responsibility to eradicate the illicit brews.”
Gachagua who was addressing the fight against Illicit brew in one of the local stations on Monday said that the fight is targeting manufacturers and sellers of the illicit and illegal brews and not kenyans.
He said that legal business owners and those operating within the boundaries of the law will not be affected by the fight and should join in defending rogue business operators
“Legit businesses will not be affected by the crackdown. Bar owners must unite and work with the government in eradicating the rogue traders and manufacturers producing the killer drinks.”

Gachagua reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that they win the fight against illicit brew in the country due to its adverse effects on young people and families.
“Greed and overnight chase for accumulation of wealth led us into this menace. Let us be reasonable and responsible towards wealth creation. We will do whatever we can to win the war. The illicit brews have ruined families and killed young people.”
