A review by the Ministry of Health has issued directions on the married couples in the Social Health Fund Registration.
According to reports, married couples will no longer be required to provide marriage certificates during Social Health Fund Registration as proof of marriage.
This comes after a meeting between Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha and the National Assembly Delegated Legislation Committee where the new arrangements were revealed.

The Members of Parliament raised concerns over the marriage certificate requirement, highlighting that some Kenyans did not possess marriage certificates due to traditional weddings that don’t offer the certification.
Susan Nakhumicha therefore directed that the certificates will no longer be mandatory requirement for married couples during registration of the Social Health insurance Fund.
“There was public outcry during countrywide public participation. This resulted in the amendment to only require proof of marriage.”
Documents That Will Be Needed For Social Health Fund Registration
For married couples, the following documents will still be necessary; National identity cards and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) will still be necessary.

This also comes after the government directed that polygamous families will pay more in the Social Health Insurance Fund due to their nature of marriage.
“In the spirit of equity and equitability, it is only fair that the contributor makes an additional payment for each spouse. The income is that of a household, which means it is the total income of all spouses.”
The fund registration is expected to kick off today, Friday, March 1 and will run through the 90 days as outlined by the Ministry of Health. The Ministry will aslo start deducting salaries from July 1st after completion of the registration exercise.
