The government through its cabinet meeting has listed five rules that Airbnb owners will have to adhere to in a bid to control the rate of murder in those short stay apartments.
According to reports, the cabinet meeting that was held on Wednesday, March 13th came up with strong rules for Airbnb owners due to the rise of femicide cases.
Rules for Airbnb and Short Term Stay Apartment Owners
Cabinet secretaries set five rules: Going forward, the premises will be mandated to maintain Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras in all common areas.

The directive insisted that measures should be put in place to ensure that the footage is recorded, stored, and can be retrieved if the need arises failure to which Airbnb owner will be held accountable.
Secondly, the cabinet secretaries agreed that Airbnb owners should have an updated register documenting the verified identity of persons entering and exiting the premises.
This should be supported by proper identification documents; together with the time of entry and exit from the premises to ensure correct details of the occupants are captured accordingly.
Owners of the short-term rentals and furnished apartments will also be required to maintain a current and accurate log of all vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles entering or departing from the premises

Additionally, owners of these premises should ensure that the dwellings are guarded by a properly registered private security service provider who is present round the clock to offer assistance when need arises and be vigilant at all times.
The owners of these businesses will also be required to keep a security occurrence book to record daily significant incidents and notable events which will come in handy when need be.
