The government through Isaac Mwaura, the spokesperson has acknowledged the passport delays in printing and issuance that has caused an uproar in recent weeks.
According to Mwaura, the recent passport delays in the printing and issuance of passports has been occasioned by the failure of printing machines and the increasing demand for travel documents.
The spokesperson said that there has been an increase in application of the passports since Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki promised to clear the backlog from the previous applied passports, thus the struggle to complete the publica.

“The demand for passports is extremely high and the backlog is also high. We also have the same with the good conduct certificates. We are in the process of streamlining the two. For good conduct, we have a demand for 20,000 per day against a backlog of 700,000.”
However, to solve this, Mwaura said that the government has acquired two new printing machine to add to the existing one to deal with the high volume of publications at Nyayo House.
In addition, Mwaura said that the government is working to release 100,000 passports in the coming days in a bid to clear the backlog with the CS expected to launch the two new printing machines.
