Kenyans seeking government services (lost ID and Passport charges) will now pay more to access various services after the Ministry of Interior implemented new charges effective March 1st.
According to reports, the Interior Ministry sent a memo to regional coordinators directing them to effect the changes where they listed several changes in government services where they will be required to implement the same.
New Charges For Various Government Services
Kenyans will now have to pay Ksh. 1000 more for ordinary passports while it will cost an ordinary kenyan Ksh. 1000 to replace an identification Card (ID) once it gets lost.
The revised fees and charges were published on November 14th 2023 and will now take full effect after after the directive.
Kenyans applying for a New ID will pay Ksh. 300 while those applying for a lost ID will pay Ksh. 1000 to replace it. Surprisingly, the initial charges for these services were free to apply for a new ID and Ksh. 100 to replace the lost ID.
In addition, Kenyans applying birth certificates for their newborn infants will now pay Ksh. 200 up from the previous Ksh. 50 while those applying for certificate of death for their kins will pay Ksh. 200 for the same. However, late birth and death registration will force one to part with Ksh. 500 for both up from Ksh. 150.
New Passport Charges
For passports, the government has increased their charges for 70% where kenyans who want to apply for kenyan passports will have to pay more to get documentation.
Ordinary passport with 34 Pages will now cost kenyans Ksh 7,500 up from Ksh. 4,500 while Ordinary 50 Page passport will cost Ksh. 9,500 up from Ksh. 6000. In addition, Ordinary 66 Page passport will cost you Ksh. 12,500 up from Ksh. 7,500.

According to reports, to replace a lost or mutilated passport, kenyans will pay Ksh. 20,000 for both up frok Ksh. 12,000 and Ksh. 10,000 respectively. Also, an Express passport will cost you Ksh. 30,000.
For those who want to regain Kenyan citizenship after renouncing, they will pay ten times summing up to Ksh. 50,000 up from Ksh. 5000. Those marrying from outside thr country within East Africa will pay Ksh. 50,000 to register their spouses as Kenyans.
In addition, Children of kenyans born outside the country for whatever reasons will pay Ksh. 750,000 for their citizenship. Spouses to Kenyan citizens will pay Ksh. 150,000 shillings.
Therefore, the new lost ID and Passport charges have been directed by the Interior Ministry to start being effect from March 1st and kenyans are expected to comply once they visit government offices and Huduma Centers for any of the aforementioned services.
