The Ministry of Education through the Teachers Service Commission has directed that all teachers, Secretariat Staff, and Grade 8 pupils to consider enrolling in a new digital skills course.
According to the commission, the course is offered by the Ministry of Education at a cost of Ksh2,500 per person which seeks to implement Kenya’s National Digital Master Plan 2022-2032.
“The training will be self-sponsored at a fee of Ksh2,500 per person for basic digital skills and a certificate will be issued upon completion and assessment by the Government.”

The Digital Master Plan aims to impart and enhance the digital skills of Kenyans within a period of ten years making the first cohort to pay for the programme.
The commission further directed that all regional directors, county directors and sub-county directors ensure that the circular goes to all institutions and teachers within their jurisdiction.
This is to ensure that Kenyans have basic digital skills and capacity to effectively access and utilize Government e-services making the ICT ministry to seek over 20 Million trained kenyans by 2032.
“The Government with the support of stakeholders has developed an ICT curriculum of short courses focusing on Foundation, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced digital skills including, public sector-focused digital skills.”
Phase one of the programme will see all teachers and Grade 8 pupils in public institutions enrolled to the programme that targets over 5 million kenyans in the first phase.

The training will be facilitated by different ICT organisations drawn from both the public and private sectors, NGOs, and various accredited training institutions
Parents and guardians of grade 8 pupils, teachers have been directed to make arrangements for the programme that will be self sponsored to ensure compliance.
