The Ministry of Education has announced the requirements for parents to pay school fees through eCitizen platform and listed how parents will pay the fees.
This comes after the ministry issued a directive that directs all principals to provide school bank details for eCitizen integration so that parents to pay school fees through eCitizen.
According to sources, the directive is expected to protect the school fees from corrupt Principals and accountants long accused of creating imbalances on the institution’s balance sheets.

“The directorate of e-Citizen in partnership with the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA), Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy and the National Treasury have been coordinating the onboarding of all government services onto the eCitizen platform to enhance service delivery.”
Requirements For Parents To Pay Fees Through eCitizen
According to the directive, parents must have a personal eCitizen account which can be created on any cyber cafe across the country. For one to create an eCitizen account, he/she must have;
- National Identification card and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate crucial for creating the eCitizen account

How To Pay Fees Through eCitizen
- Navigate to the fees section on the eCitizen platform
- Provide the student’s name, admission number, and recipient school’s bank account details.
- Submit the number that you will use to pay
- You will receive an Mpesa prompt from eCitizen to accept payments of that specific student
- Print the receipt to show in the school for confirmation.
The move has however caused mixed reactions among parents, guardians, Principals and kenyans at large with most asking how those students who pay fees through supplies to the school will move forward.
However others said that the move will curb corruption in schools and put an end to the embezzlement of funds by school heads who use thwir access to the school funds to mismanage.
