Kenyans have raised concerns after the government through the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development announced the completion of the first units of affordable housing project.
According to the announcement, the affordable housing units are completed and ready viewing and finally purchase. These houses are available in Bondeni in Nakuru.
However, the price range and requirements have taken kenyans aback with most asking if the common mwananchi and mama mbogas who the affordable housing units are meant to help can afford the price range.

Requirements For Acquiring Affordable Housing Unit
- 2 bedroom (64sqm) goes for KES 3.15M & 3 bedroom (85sqm) goes for KES 4.25M
- Qualified purchasers will get rent-to-own home loans at a monthly rate of KES 16,997 for the 2 Bedroom & KES 22,933 for the 3 Bedroom.
- The purchasers will be required to pay a 10% deposit to qualify.
Interested and able kenyans are invited to view the houses in the Bondeni site in Nakuru and can make their formal application for the house of their choice in the BOMA YANGU PORTAL
Majority of kenyans are questioning the affordability of the project considering the fact that the government aims and targets the vulnerable in society to access the programme.

With a 10% deposit of the total ammount being a far high reach for most kenyans, the netizens have asked the government to reduce the ammount needed for the first time deposit with the monthly installments being fair.
The rent to own plan by the government has impressed many with tenants required to pay Ksh. 16,997 for a two bedroom and Ksh. 22,933 for a three bedroom monthly.
