The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has on Sunday announced new methods of monthly NHIF payment effective immediately.
This comes after the Presidential directive that all government payments should be made under a single channel of the eCitizen platform.
In a statement signed by Chief Executive Elijah Wachira, the fund informed its members to use Pay bill Number 222222 to make their monthly payments.
“The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) notifies all members and employers that effective immediately, all NHIF payments through mobile money platforms shall only be made through the government Pay bill number 222222.”

“This is in line with the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of Pay bill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform.”
How To Make NHIF Payment
- Go to Mpesa Option
- Select Pay bill option
- Enter Pay bill Number 222222
- Enter NHIFM-ID NUMBER as your account number.
NOTE: For those paying penalties, they should substitute NHIFM with NHIFP before inserting their ID number on the account number option.
However, for Employers contributing for their employees to the NHIF Funds, they will henceforth use NHIFE-ESlip NUMBER as the account number for monthly contributions and NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE for employer penalty.
This comes after President William Ruto stated in June that all government agencies would use one payment channel to ensure efficiency. This will also reduce corruption as government offices will limit cash payments.
NHIF becomes the latest institution to comply with the government’s directive on the digital payment system (e-citizen). So far, most of the government institutions like Kenyatta National Hospital have complied with the directive by the President.
