Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua speaking about Mungiki has said that he is ready to pay the political price if that’s what it takes to protect young girls and women in Mt Kenya from Mungiki.
This comes after Maina Njenga fired at the Deputy President over the arrest of over 250 youths in Nyeri a day ago claiming that the government was profiling youths in the region.
Speaking during the burial of Nyandarua Senator John Methu’s father, Gachagua stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration was keen on scaling up the crackdown on suspected Mungiki members.

“An attempt is being made now to revive that criminal gang. Two months ago they had started illegal revenue collection.”
According to Gachagua, President William Ruto’s administration would ensure that the gang never commit atrocities in Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions. Thus that the arrests which were made on Sunday were a result of a two-month investigation.
Gachagua Speaking about Mungiki noted that the gang has been involved in the assault and defilement of women in the Mt Kenya region in the past and now they have set up a parallel tax collection system with the proceeds funnelled to their leader’s account.
Shops and matatus operating in in Mt Kenya and Nairobi regions were being extorted was through forceful levies charged by the outlawed sect. And the DP said that cannot be tolerated.

“Do not tell us that the young men are from our region, even the women being defiled and matatu owners being extorted are from the community. If there is any political price that needs to be paid to protect these women and our young girls then I am ready.”
