Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sent another warning to President William Ruto hours after 280 MPs confirmed his impeachment motion to be tabled in parliament.
Speaking on Saturday during his rally in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, the deputy president accused the Head of State of inciting parliamentarians to impeach him against the will of the Kenyan people.
According to Gachagua, the lawmakers had no jurisdiction over his impeachment since he was elected by the Kenyan people and therefore will not bow to threats even as his advisors ask him to resign before the Impeachment.
“If Ruto is tired of Mt Kenya votes he should tell us, let him stop telling Members of Parliament to impeach me. I will not be intimidated they are calling for my resignation, I will not allow it, I was given the job by the Kenyan people.”
Gachagua further sent a warning to President Ruto against betraying the Mt Kenya voters through Impeachment, claiming that if it was not for him, the Head of State would not have received votes from the region and thus would not have become President
“Ruto was elected because he had me as his running mate. He wouldn’t have been elected president if I wasn’t there,” said the furious Deputy President amid silent treatment by the Head of State.
This comes after a togal of 280 MPs confirmed the Deputy President’s impeachment motion. In a statement by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, he will sponsor the motion against Gachagua and will be ready to be tabled on Tuesday next week.
However, on Friday, a youthful leader moved to court to seek orders to stop MPs from tabling a motion to impeach the Deputy President arguing that there was no constitutional framework guiding the impeachment and would destabilise the functions of the executive .
