Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now come out to publicly apologise to Mama Ngina Kenyatta for dragging and insulting her during the build up of the 2022 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Monday morning, the DP took responsibility for the insults that his camp directed to Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother saying that politicians were carried away by political activities.
According to the DP, high tensions and political temperatures in the build up to the 2022 elections led some of the politicians to lose respect for the former First Lady.

“2022 politics had become so dirty. It had reached a point, where we had lacked respect, hurling insults to Mama Ngina. I wouldn’t again, like the Mt Kenya community, for us to get to that point again of lacking respect for our elders. I would like to ask for forgiveness from Mama Ngina.”
On seeking a truce and peace talks with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Rigathi Gachagua said that political scenarios like those always present themselves and if they do, he is open to the idea.
“The politics that we had during that period were not good, and I would never want us to play that kind of disrespectful politics again.”

However, the DP said that he is keen to unify the Mt. Kenya region and he is ready to meet all leaders from the region for the good of the region and the future of the people of Mt Kenya.
This comes after the DP and the former President fell out on political affiliations in the build up to the 2022 elections when Rigathi opted to support the then Deputy President William ruto for presidency while the former President opted for the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
