Mike Sonko’s impersonator was arrested in possession of a handset he has been using to send enticing messages to vulnerable targets and several simcards were also recovered by the sleuths.
This came after the complainant, Mike Mbuvi Sonko lodged a complaint at the Capital Hill Police Station in Nairobi where he reported several Facebook accounts that were being operated by the suspect.
According to Sonko, the suspect was purporting to be working with the Sonko Rescue Team and coordinating an initiative to help needy parents with school fees challenges.
Kengere asked kenyans interested to register with Sh1,000 for the advance loans which he said, would not accumulate any interests. To secure a loan, “applicants” had to also send their ID numbers, full names, location and state the purpose of the loan.

However, after receiving the registration fees, Kengere would change the narrative to throw off the persistent caller who sent the 1000 telling him to be patient. Most complaining that they were told “Patience pays”, a statement all his targets received after sending him the money.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Nairobi Area Crime Research & Intelligence Unit team then traced him to his village where he was arrested. The authorities are processing him before his arraignment on Jan 19.
