A US citizen was arrested in Nairobi on Friday with plans of terror attack on america in support of Palestine in the current Israel Hamas war.
According to reports by US department of Justice, the suspect had travelled from Egypt to Kenya at the beginning of December, intending to join militant group, Al Shabaab in a bid to help the militia group.
The 23-year-old man planned to receive extensive training from the group about jihad (holy war). In turn, he had vowed to wage war against the USA and its allies.

“As alleged, the suspect, motivated by the heinous terrorist attack perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, devoted himself to waging violent jihad against America and its allies.”
In Nairobi, the foreigner met with several members of the group before planning to travel to Somalia to join the group officially and receive the training that he needed.
The plan was disrupted after detectives of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted and arrested the suspect before he could depart Kenya
He was extradited to the US days later to face charges of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organisation, a charge that carry a maximum of 20 years in jail.

This comes after several countries including Canada and the United Kingdom issuing travel advisories against kenya warning their citizens against planned terror attacks in various parts of the country.
However, several attacks have been reported in the northern part of the country and some parts like Lamu where the terror group has claimed responsibility.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has however assured kenyans that the government is doing everything to avert these attacks and ensure that every kenyan in every part of the country doesn’t suffer from any terror attack.
