Five people have been confirmed dead and nine others injured after they were involved in Nyeri accident while coming from Subukia Shrine in Nyeri County.
According to reports, the accident happened at Mahiga Meeru area, along the Nyahururu-Nyeri road involving women who had attended a prayer meeting at Subukia Shrine.
The victims were a driver and women from St. Peters Gaitega, of Cathedral Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a, and were returning home after joining thousands of Catholic Women Association (CWA) attending a National prayer meeting.
Four victims died on the spot and the bodies of four who perished on the spot were taken to the Nyahururu County Hospital Mortuary.

Three survivors of the Nyeri Accident were rushed to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital where they were treated, two of them were discharged while another was admitted nursing head injuries while others were taken to different hospitals within Nyeri County.
According to survivors, the driver of the 14-seater nissan they were travelling in was trying to avoid an head on collision with an oncoming trailer but the trailer that had lost control did not spare them.

Lucy Wanjiku and Jecinta Njeri are among those who survived said the trailer appeared to have lost its brakes and lost control before it rammed on their vehicle causing the death of five and nine injured.
Nyandarua County Women’s Representative Faith Gitau who is among those who helped the survivor expressed her heartfelt feelings to the victims and called for fortitude for their families during this difficult moment.
