The Interior Ministry Head of Communications Francis Gachuri has clarified that the exams scheduled for Monday will proceed despite being a public holiday. This shows that exam continues during holiday that is planned.
This comes after the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki confirmed by gazetting Monday the 13th of November as a public holiday. He did this in order for kenyans to engage in tree planting exercise countrywide. The Gazette Notice Read:
“In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Monday, November 13 2023, a public holiday in which the public shall be engaged in tree growing countrywide.”
Gachuri has however clarified about the ongoing examination exercise saying that the holiday will not interfere with the exams. Indicatinthat exam continues during holiday. Speaking on X, he said that the papers scheduled for that day will proceed normally.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination are currently ongoing with this being the first week of the theory exams. The students did their practicals the previous week and commenced their theories today.

According to the Ministry, they have partnered with the Interior Ministry to ensure that cheating is minimised. This is aiming to restore the integrity and trust that was put in place in national exams.
Although few suspects have been arrested in connection to false publishing of information by sharing exam papers, the day recorded minimal malpractices. In addition, the ministry continues to be cautious to ensure that this menace is scrubbed off.
Among measures put in place is taking exams in shifts. Morning exams shall be returned to the containers before collecting afternoon exams to counter early exposure. This shows determination to curb cheating.
