DPP To File Appeal Against Jacque Maribe Acquittal
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has filed a notice of appeal against Jacque Maribe on the High Court judgement that acquitted her in the murder case of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
In a notice, the office noted that it was in disagreement with Justice Grace Nzioka’s rulling that set Jacque Maribe free last week.
“Take notice that the Republic, the intended Appellant herein, being dissatisfied with the decision of the High Court of Kenya at Nairobi (Hon. G. Nzioka), delivered in Nairobi on the 9th of February 2024, appeals to the Court of Appeal against the part of the judgment acquitting the 2nd Accused Person.”

According to the rulling that was made by Justice Grace Nzioka, on February 9th,the judge noted that the prosecution did not provide sufficient evidence to link Jacque Maribe to the murder of Monica Kimani.
However, the court found the co accused to Maribe, Jowie Irungu guilty of the murder before setting Maribe free, an action that the office of the Public Prosecution has disagreed with.
According to Nzioka, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution preferred the wrong charges against Maribe as the court accused her of perjury rather than murder thus setting her free for lack of evidence

It now remains unclear when the DPP will file the appeal having released the notice of intention to file the appeal against the former Citizen TV news anchor.
Maribe when asked for a comment following the ruling, quoted a Bible verse, “I have nothing to say but for you shall know the truth and it shall set you free.”
