The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided various shops in the Nairobi CBD with links to phone theft and reselling of stolen phones in the city.
According to reports the operation that was conducted on March 4th resulted to recovering hundreds of stolen phones that were in the process of being resold to unsuspecting Kenyans.
In the first operation, DCI stormed Free Mack Electronic Shop, Kamale Mobile Repair in Ruai, & Friends Communication Shop in Kamulu where over 182 mobile phones, a laptop, iPad and two heating machines were seized.

Five suspects namely Fredrick Maina, Macnair Gedion, Robin Muturi, John Kamau Mwangi and Kelvin Kamau Njuguna were arrested following the successful operation in the area.
Proceeding to Kamukunji, detectives raided various shops where 19 suspected stolen mobile phones were recovered within Shops numbers 3A and 2B. They were led to Cianda Market shop number 426 where 10 more stolen phones were found.
This saw three suspects arrested namely Samuel Kang’ethe, Anthony Kamau & Kelvin Kihara for being in a theft syndicate.
In Langata, Detectives following a intelligence tip raided Mobihub Planet-BIHI Towers where they founf 34 suspected stolen phones. Lynne Wambui and Paul Kamau Wainaina were arrested. 8 laptops seized at Skydeck Technologies shop in possession by Brian Mwangi & Robert Thuo Mwangi.

Meanwhile, 5 robbers who waylaid a Matopeni area dweller at Mukuru kwa Njenga – Reli section stealing from him a jacket & an OPPO phone valued at Sh20k were arrested by Embakasi police, who recovered the jacket & escorted them to custody.
The DCI Nairobi Region Coordinator has warned phone thieves posing as phone dealers & phone repairers that detectives are hot on their trail, equally cautioning legit vendors to be careful while handling 2nd hand electronics as they may put them in serious problems with the law.
