The High Court has allowed the Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah to record a statement against President Ruto over the alleged death threats by the head of state.
In a statement ordering the Inspector General Japhet Koome, the court directed the IG to allow Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah to record a statement against President Ruto, something that Okiya Omtatah had previously failed to do.
In a rulling by Justice Mwita of the Milimani High Court, the Judge directed IG Koome to file a response within 14 days of being served with the notice bearing the same instructions.

This comes after the Busia Senator made his way to Nyanchwa Police Station on December 19 to try and record a statement against the head of state. However, the senator was turned and chased away by police officers at the station. This was after trying the same at Mosocho before being referred to Nyanchwa Police Station.
According to Omtatah, Ruto warned that he would not relent in his quest to achieve his legacy and, as such, received a sword from his predecessor that necessitates him to handle individuals opposing the housing levy.
“You know I was given a sword. Do you think it’s for cutting vegetables? It’s for dealing with all these crooks here. I will uproot them completely, and Kenya will move forward.”
This acted as a strong message to Omtatah and those going to court to Oppose government’s projects as a threat to not only their freedom, but their liives, prompting Omtatah to feel the necessity to record a statement.

He therefore turned to the Judiciary to seek legal resort and pressure the police to grant him his rights in accordance with the law.
