Residents of Embakasi area in Nairobi have been left shocked after a midnight fire burnt down tens of houses in the area.
According to reports, the fire tragedy broke out at 1 AM at the Jua Kali Green Corner, Embakasi Area burning down a total of 24 houses leaving families out in the cold.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino confimed the incident calling upon the Nairobi County Government to react swiftly to such incidents to avoid massive loss of property and fast spread of fire.
According to Babu Owino, late response by the Nairobi City Fire Fighters team led to over 20 houses to be burnt down and if they were swift, such number of houses could not have been burnt down.
“Fire outbreak at Juakali Embakasi East. Sadness in Embakasi. Nairobi County fire brigade should move with speed and put out the fire,” said the MP before the fire hit 20 houses consecutively.
However, no casualties have been reported so far from the unfortunate midnight incident given that the owners were fast asleep when the fire broke out. However, few injuries have been reported as residents tried to escape the inferno.
This comes after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja was stoned in Nairobi’s Toi Market after he was blamed for not dispatching the fire fighting equipments fast enough to contain the fire that left property destroyed.

The county government of Nairobi has in several occasions been blamed for slow response to such incidents causing massive damages before the response team can arrive to the scene. However, the Governor has promised to improve on the team.
