A CCTV footage that was produced in court has shown that Geoffrey Opala, the Visa Oshwal swimming pool attendant intentionally left an 11- year old to drown in the school’s swimming pool.
According to the footage, the 11- year old drowned when Opala was on duty and the footage shows the kid walking past Opala who failed to prevent the new student from accessing the pool.
This comes after the 11- year old Abdikarim Ali, a new student at the Visa Oshwal Academy was reported missing on Tuesday after his father went to pick him up from school.

The grade two pupil had transferred to the school a day before the unfortunate incident. His body was found in the pool on Wednesday, a day after drowning on Tuesday.
Police Constable Clare Wafula while presenting the video said that Opala neglected his official duty and should be detained as officers conduct further investigations.
“The respondent (Opala) was captured on CCTV footage on duty when the deceased walked past him towards the pool and later the body of the deceased found to have drowned in the pool.”
Detectives say that Mr Opala intentionally failed to prevent the minor from walking into the Visa Oshwal Swimming pool, the job that he is paid to do as his official duty.
“The respondent was arrested on February 22nd for the suspicion of having committed an offence of neglect of official duty contrary to section 128 as read with section 36 of the penal code.”

Further, Opala is said to have lied to the school administration on the whereabouts of the child even after being pressed further, denied to have seen him even after the minor walked past him to the swimming pool.
However, later, Opala is said to have informed the family that he had searched the swimming pool and recovered the body in absence of the family and the school staff, something the detectives say was suspicious.
Opala’s request for a bond was also denied after the detectives claimed that he had denied disclosing where he lives or anything about his personal life. This according to the detectives will pose as a challenge in tracing him down thus, a flight risk.
He is also said to be a danger to the investigation process and will interfere with witnesses yet to be traced with some of them being his workmates at Oshwal Academy.
