The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination is expected to be released officially next week and more students are expected to score highly in the KCSE 2023 Release than the previous years.
According to reports, the new grading system will ensure that more candidates get high grades compared to the previous years because the new system picks the highly performed subjects
The new system requires only two mandatory subjects for computing the mean grade and the subjects will be Mathematics and one language subject (English, Kiswahili, or Kenyan Sign Language)

Additionally, the examiners will be required to pick five of the best-performed subjects from a candidate doing away with the previous grading system that concentrated more on specific subjects.
Previously, the mean grades for KCSE exams were computed from five mandatory subjects which are; Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, two sciences and one humanity across three cluster groups.
The new system was proposed by the Presidential Working Party on education reforms suggested that the 8-4-4 grading system disadvantaged some learners whose best performing subjects were not considered if they were not within the cluster.

This move will see more students who sat for their KCSE 2023 Examination scoring high grades due to the selection of only high performing subjects and reduction of compulsory subjects required for grading.
In an highly anticipated examination release, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has assured Kenyans and candidates in general that the discrepancies that were witnessed in the KCPE 2023 results will not happen in the upcoming KCSE 2023 release.
Students, Parents, Teachers and education stakeholders are advised to remain calm as the release edges closer with the exact official release day to be communicated as soon as possible.
