The government has postponed the Visa-Free directive that was made by the President that will see persons entering the country to do so without the need of a Visa
According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the alternative entry application model that required the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system has not yet been fully developed.
This means that visitors coming into the country will continue using the old means of access through passport and Visas by the Kenyan embassies in their respective countries before coming into the country.

“All travelers coming to Kenya from countries that require visas shall continue applying for visas in the usual manner until the government communicates the change program to the ETA system.”
According to reports, the system that was to be used in the free entry of persons into kenya is being developed and the directive is therefore postponed to a later date.
“Following the presidential directive that Kenya will be a visa-free country from January 2024, an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system is in the process of development and implementation.”
ETA systems are meant to control the influx of visitors once the visas are scrapped. ETA systems are also expected to advance the country’s security as they offer travel authorization to mitigate delays.

This comes after President Ruto made a declaration that Kenya is set to be a visa-free regime, during the 2023 Jamhuri celebrations following a long hint to remove the visa barriers.
The authorities said that once the ETA systems are up and running, they will inform the respective sectors to adopt the new style. But until then, the old method will continue being in use till further notice.
