Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli is yet again facing a tough time after the court rejected his request to appear before Judge Lawrence Mugambi on Thursday to apologise.
According to reports, lawyers representing Masengeli wanted to request the court to allow the Acting Inspector General to appear before Judge Mugambi to apologise, a request that was declined.
In a statement from the High Court, presiding judge Chacha Mwita declined the request by Masengeli’s lawyers led by Steve Ogolla and Cecil Miller, who appealed to have Masengeli appear before Mugambi from 12PM to 2 PM today.

However, Judge Mugambi is said to have been involved in other matters and couldn’t be available to allow Masengeli before him in a bid to squash his sentence that is set to take effect tomorrow.
Due to these circumstances, Judge Mwita directed that Masengeli should appear before Judge Mugambi on Friday in a bid to race against time to quash the ruling that will see him start serving jail term from Friday.
This comes after the Acting Inspector General decided to withdraw security officers offering protection to justice Mugambi maintaining that the officers had been recalled for advanced training,an explanation that has proven unsatisfactory.
Further, Masengeli accused Judge Mugambi of bias and argued that the ruling was made without considering the application he filed before the court and explaining that the victims in question are not in Police custody.

However, the Court of Appeal declined to lift the prison sentence thus the only way Masengeli will avert the sentence is to appear before Judge Lawrence Mugambi, with the only opportunity being tomorrow, on deadline day.
