A new wave of bedbugs have hit France that has forced closure of seven schools. Education Minister Gabriel Attal disclosed that bedbugs have infested seventeen schools and seven have already been closed.
“Bedbugs were detected at various levels in… I believe 17 institutions, and currently as I speak to you, seven institutions are closed for this reason,”
France is preparing to host the Rugby World Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympics and this led to a series of meetings to curb the rising number of bedbugs reported in the country.

Attal confirmed that the bedbug cases are piling up and immediate response is needed to contain the menace as soon as possible.
“We have almost 60,000 institutions and we’re only talking about a few dozen here, but it’s true that cases are piling up. An immediate response is needed, so that we can have institutions treated within 24 hours.”
He also confirmed that the Ministry is working with different companies that are recognized and approved in collaboration with health ministry to intervene quickly and save the situation.
A municipal library was also closed for the past few days due to bedbugs hitting in the public reading areas. The library was treated and reopened on Saturday.
Authorities confirm that the bedbug issue is a serious issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible to prevent further spread that can cause further problems for the citizens.
The bedbugs have been spotted in public high speed trains, Paris metro and even the Paris’s Charles De Gaulle Airport
Meanwhile the schools remain closed as fumigation process kicks off to allow health officials to clean up the schools before students are allowed to report back to school.
